Austin is full of family activities to keep your kids and your family busy year-round. These are our top picks for things to do with your family.

1. Boating. Explore Town Lake by renting a kayak or a canoe for the afternoon from one of the several rental places around the lake. Another great place for boating is Lady Bird Lake.

2. Children's Museum. Take the kids to the Austin Children's Museum, a fun place for kids and adults of all ages, to learn, explore, and play.

3. Visit the Animals. The Austin Zoo & Animal Sanctuary is just outside of Austin in the Hill Country and is a great place to see the rescued animals and pet and feed the farm animals.



4. See Dinosaurs. Spend the day at the Dinosaur Park in Cedar Creek (12 miles East of Austin), where the kids can see life-size dinosaur replicas, dig for fossils, play in the playground, and have a picnic.

5. Hike, Bike, Swim. At Zilker Park, you can take the kids for short hikes, bike rides, or for a swim at the Barton Springs pool, which is always a 68 degree temperature year round. There's also a playground, miniature train rides, picnic areas, and much more. It's a great place for an all day adventure.

6. The Farm. Take a ride up north to the Jourdan Bachman Pioneer Farm, a great place for kids to learn about life in Texas in the 1880s, from blacksmith and woodworking, to farming and ropemaking.

7. Explore Art. Visit the Austin Museum of Art on the second Saturdays of the month, where your family can get in for only $7 and participate in some planned family activities, including artwork and crafts, as well as explore the museum.

8. Take a Class. Check out our list of kid and adult classes.

9. Performing Arts. Attend a live performance at the Austin Children's Theater. If you prefer a movie, check out some movie venues in and around Austin.

10. Story Times. These are usually for the under 5 crowd, but are loads of fun for the whole family. Check out the Austin Public Library Youth Services for programs and times. Also,BookPeopleBarnes and Noble, and Pottery Barn Kids all offer weekly story times.

11. Amusement Park. Spend the day at Austin's Park, An indoor/outdoor park with a rock climbing wall, laser tag, go-karts, a video arcade, and much more to keep you busy for an entire day.
